About this project

Keep Austin FREE!

FREE in Austin started in 2009 as my own personal calendar. I was in between jobs and wanted to keep busy without spending money, so I started keeping track of every FREE thing to do around town.

As the calendar filled up, I shared it with a few close friends. Then I thought, why not share it with everyone? That's how the Facebook page started, and then the website.

The trails are here. The libraries are here. The community events, the FREE stages, the music spilling out of open doors, all here. FREE in Austin exists to make sure people can find all of it, no matter what their budget looks like.

Because it started as a passion project between jobs, FREE in Austin has had its ebbs and flows since 2009. Not anymore. I'm my own employer now, and a photography student, and FREE in Austin is here to stay.
